GC Divers win junior national meet title

The GC Divers competitive springboard diving team took first place last weekend at the U.S. Junior West National Championships.

GCD won the overall team competition as well as both men’s and women’s division at the meet held at the University of Missouri in Columbia.

This year’s title made the fourth straight for the program.

Five divers from Keller made the trip and contributed to the win.

Alex Fincher took third place on the 3-meter board and fourth on 1-meter in the 14-15 men’s division.

With his performance, Fincher qualified for an international diving competition that will be held at the end of May in England.

Keller’s Callan Buck came through with a sixth-place performance at three meters, and finished 19th on 1-meter in the 16-18 women’s division.

Rachel Williams, competing in the 12-13 division, picked up a seventh-place finish at 3-meters and 21st place on the 1-meter board.

In the 11-and-under division, Emily Grund took third on 3-meter and 17th on 1-meter, while Emma Peavler took 14th on 3-meter and 22nd on 1-meter.

Grund is 8 years old, competing with divers up to 11 years in age and earned an invitation into the Olympic Talent Identification program of U.S. Diving.
