Indians 5-5A champs; Ridge shares 6-4A title

Keller's baseball team defeated Haltom 9-1 Friday night to win the District 5-5A title.

Stephen Krolick got the win for the Indians, giving up just one first inning run, while the Keller offense took care of business to reclaim the league crown it also won in 2006.

Keller will open the playoffs against familiar playoff opponent Lewisville next weekend. The Fighting Farmers finished in fourth place in District 6-5A.

Meanwhile, in 6-4A, Fossil Ridge won a share of the district crown with a 13-6 victory over Springtown on Friday night, but fell to Birdville on Saturday in a first-place playoff.

The Panthers lost 5-3 to the Hawks at Colleyville Heritage to fall to Birdville for the second time in a week.

Ridge committed four errors in the field and couldn't generate enough offense against Hawks pitchers Paul Hendricks and Duncan McAlpine.

Saturday's win gave Birdville 6-4A's top seed, while the Panthers will enter the playoffs as the second seed.

Ridge will take on Wichita Falls Rider next weekend in the bi-district round of the 4A Region I playoffs, while Birdville will get a bye into the area round.

Central scored six runs in the top of the seventh inning to send its season finale against Northwest on Friday into extra innings.

The Texans ended the game with a run in the bottom of the eighth, however, handing the Chargers a 7-6 defeat, Central's sixth straight loss.
