Ridge golf places ninth in region

The Ridge boys team finished in a tie for ninth place out of the 16 teams at the tournament Monday and Tuesday at Quicksand Golf Course in San Angelo.
Ridge posted a two-day score of 668, shaving 10 strokes off their Day One score to end in a tie with Joshua.
Panther golfers Mike Killam, Taylor Beavers, Gates Lopez, Jacob Tankersley and Nick Hemann combined to shoot a 339 on Monday, but brought that tally down to a 329 after the second day.
Arlington Heights won the tournament with a 601 (302-299) and Aledo came in second with a 615 to take the region’s two spots in the Class 4A state championship.
Killam led the Panthers with a total score of 161. He also shot a team-low score of 78 on Tuesday.
Beavers was right behind with a 165, shooting five strokes fewer Tuesday than his first-round score of 85.
Lopez shot 84s both days and Tankersley showed similar consistency with two 87s. Hemann shot 178 over the two days.
Across town, two Ridge girls were competing at the same time at Bentwood Country Club.
Stephanie Moorberg represented District 6-4A as an individual qualifier, though she didn’t place in the final standings at regionals.
Moorberg rebounded from a tough first day to finish with a 170. Monday, the sophomore posted a 92, but managed to take off 14 strokes on the second day on the course.
Aledo won the girls tournament with a 626.
