KELLER

Resident Col. Walter W. Pine was one of five veterans awarded the Congressional Veteran Commendation on Veterans Day by U.S. Rep. Michael C. Burgess. The commendation honors veterans of the Texas 26th congressional district.

Old Town Keller Merchants Association seeks volunteers to work on the Keller train, which will be cleaned and refurbished so that tours can again be conducted. The group also seeks to start a Train Club and open a Train Museum. For information, call 817-821-9518.

KELLER ISD

Liberty Elementary School recently won a district-wide contest sponsored by Frost Bank. The contest sought teacher financial support of Keller ISD Education Foundation. Liberty had 80 percent of its staff make gifts to the foundation totaling more than $1,100. Ninety per cent of KISD campuses raised about $17,000 that will be used to fund teacher grants. Keller High’s Academic Team won the Overall Sweepstakes Award in recent competition at Birdville High, beating 24 other schools.

Bear Creek Intermediate School, which hosted a recent Math and Science Competition, won the first-place Sweepstakes Trophy for grades 5-6 division.

Metroport Meals on Wheels has volunteer opportunities available in Sadie’s Resale Shop in Roanoke benefiting the organization.
